once upon a fort-night...

Friday night is fort night...
at least at our house.
I remember when I was young,
there was nothing as exciting as
sleeping somewhere new and different.
Enter: the FORT
Carter, Jace, & Lady manage to build one
every Friday night.
Sometimes in the playroom,
sometimes under the stairs,
sometimes in their own rooms.
The location doesn't matter,
as long as they are sleeping somewhere
that is NOT their own bed.

... as I took this pic, I was slightly afraid
that the entire fort might collapse...
but like all things kid, it didn't.
Jace survived the night even with
his less-than-stable fort.

yep...that's drool...

Tim brought home a model airplane...
not a quick, put together in an hour model plane,
He and Carter have spent hours pinning, cutting, gluing
and they still have a long way to go.
It's funny to watch them both rush through dinner
just to have some model airplane time.

All said and done,
this airplane should fly.
I wonder if they will want to chance
the total wreckage of the first crash
after all their hard work....
hmmmm...
I'm sure I'll post pics of that too!

Happy February first!
Surely spring is just around
the very cold, sub zero corner?!

I wish...

Wishes are funny things...
I used to wish everyday that Jace would
find his way out of the terrible twos, threes, & fours
I used to wish for the day I could go the store ALONE
I used to wish that I could carry a purse
that didn't require pockets for diapers, wipes, cereal,
emergency change of clothes, bibs, & toys.

With everyone in school now,
there are days I wish I could have some of it back.
I miss walking through the mall with a baby in the front pack,
two kids in the double stroller,
and two more hanging onto my pockets.
I miss being able to stay for 3 hours at the play place
because there was no one to pick up or drop off.
I miss rocking babies to sleep and
giving them baths in the kitchen sink.

On the flip side,
I love that everyone can get up, get breakfast,
get dressed, put on their shoes and
go potty all on their own.
I love that I can finally volunteer at the school,
and not have to arrange babysitting.
I love going to the pool and relaxing
while my big kids take over and play with the little kids.
It's a new phase, but I love it.
I could freeze time right now,
and be content for a long time.

Today, I wished for summer.
The sunshine streaming in my windows
was so warm, if stood right in it,
and closed my eyes,
it almost felt like summer....almost.
So I'm posting a few old summer pics
just for me!

many summer outings to Thanksgiving Point!

camping....favorite summer getaway!

so this one is early fall....but I love this one!

Looking at my kids...happy, healthy, and loving life...
How could I not be happy too?!

battle of the bands

Yesterday was the 6th grade
BaTTle of the bAndS
...a VERY big deal...if you're in 6th grade.
Maddy's band was made up of her two
BeSt FrIenDs, Neva and Emylee.
The band name:
"Sizzlin' Sisterz"
The song choice:
"YMCA"
The cool shirts:
provided by Emylee's mom
along with the stylin' shades
The girls remembered most of their "moves"
and we parents had a good laugh
watching our kiddos rock out!

I could be 1970...couldn't I?

We think we are the very coolest things ever!

We are pretty cool...
we even have groupies!

Battle of the Bands: absolute success.

After a morning of rockin' out, I picked Jace up
and we made cookies (like I didn't get enough
chocolate during December).
As you can see from his face....yum!

Once the bowl was cleaned out,
Jace came out wearing Lady's robe
A.K.A. his karate robe....
I think maybe I need to invest in a robe
that doesn't scream GIRL...although
Jace could really care less...

By the way, if you didn't know already,
January is officially half over!
That is the best news of my week!

2010...the final hours

Can't believe we are here again...the end of another year.
2010 was full of...well...everything.
Good things, bad things, funny things, silly things...
It's always interesting to look back over the past years
and look forward to lots of new adventures in the coming year.
As traditions go, we spent New Year's Eve with our
friends of 17+ years, the Jorgensens.
We started the afternoon at Jack and Jill's bowling.
Unfortunately, so did half of American Fork.
The kids were patient, and eventually we had our turn.

We were desperate for somewhere to sit. Since sitting at the tables
required a food purchase, we bought fries and onion rings.
Entertaining, delicious, and well worth the price of a chair.

Look at those soon-to-be 14 year olds....all grown up!

Ya gotta love all the help the bowling alleys have to offer...
bumper lanes AND this cool ball-holder-thing to help the little ones.

Laityn was determined to throw the ball without help...
she even worked into a running start.
Lucky us that she never took a spill running right to that line.

Carter didn't roll his ball...he literally threw it..in the air..
I thought he was going to put in hole in the floor for sure.

"Oh man! I didn't get strike!"

Maddy was pretty awesome...with bumpers of course!

Maddy and Annie

After two sets of gutter balls, we convinced Kenzie
to let us put up the bumpers for her.
Once she had them, she had a burst of confidence,
and only needed bumper saving a couple of times the rest the game.

Tim was all about the m.p.h.
Accuracy was nice, but speed was better.
21 m.p.h. was his top speed

Check out the gunshow from our little girls!

"Hey! I think my muscles are bigger!"...."I don't know, feel mine!"

Zac kept Jace fully entertained during the down time.
After bowling, we headed home for food....LOTS of food.
We ate, played games, watched a movie, played more games
and kept busy until just minutes before midnight.
At this point, we noticed Jace was missing.
A quick search of the house found him in his pjs,
under the stairs, fast asleep. Poor boy!

Get Ready....Five...Four...

Three...

Two...

One....Happy New Year!!

making apple cider toasts

Woke up...sort of...and pretty much pouted until
he could go back to bed.

Cute Kiddos

Crazy Kiddos!

We are hoping for a fun, exciting, adventurous 2011!
